Liftomatic Material Handling, Inc. was founded in 1947 by two guys armed with an innovative design - a two wheel hand truck that grabbed a drum by the top lip to keep it from falling over during transport. The development was a first in U. S. Industry (or perhaps anywhere). That hand truck used an upper and lower jaw arrangement that a customer remarked looked "just like a parrot beak".
