The China Rubber Group Carbon Black Research & Design Institute (Southwest Carbon Black / CCBI), a fully owned subsidiary of China National Tire & Rubber Corporation, is a hi-tech carbon black enterprise integrated with scientific research, design, production and services. Since it was founded in 1965, CCBI has earned more than 100 scientific achievements, among which more than 50 projects were awarded with the scientific and technical prizes at the national, ministry and provincial levels. The new carbon black production technology was honored with the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award three times, which developed the domestic carbon black industry. There are 418 registered employees, many are well-known experts and pioneers of projects at ministry and provincial levels, including 19 experts who enjoy government special subsidies granted by the State Council.

Accredited by state authorities, CCBI is the Carbon Black Technology Development Center, National Carbon Black Materials Engineering Center, the unit is in charge of standardization of carbon black and light color reinforcing materials, China National Carbon Black Quality Supervision and Inspection Center and Carbon Black Science and Technology Information Center and Training Center. CCBI boasts of grade A qualification certificate for engineering design and consultation, grade B qualification certificate for environmental engineering design, as well as eligibility of foreign economic cooperation and foreign trade. CCBI is the first unit that was granted with certification of quality, environment and occupational health management system.

At the end of Twelfth Five-Year Plan, new industrial layout based on the carbon black industry would take shape, oriented towards an integrated service provider, new engineering business and strategic new materials in the carbon black industry. CCBI would devote itself to rejuvenate the carbon black industry and establish a top-grade research institute in the country.
