Founded in 1958, Guangxi Electric Power Industry Investigation Design and Research Institute (GXED) is the only comprehensive institute in China involving in business fields of water conservancy& hydropower, thermal power, power transmision & distribution, and industrial and civil architecture. It obtained the Grade A qualification certificates in fields of engineering design, engineering reconnaissance, hydrology and water resources investigation, design of water & soil conservation, saftey assessment, environmental pollution treatment, geologic hazard treatment, and the EPC contracting both in China and abroad.

The 50 years of hard working has brought to it the capacity to take on the investigation and design for large-sized water and hydropower projects down to 1000MW grade, extra large-sized electric power projects, and power transmission and distribution projects of extra-high voltage grade. GXED has obtained outstanding achievements and significant social and economical benefits by completing the investigation and design for projects as follows: 76 water and hydropower projects with a total installed capacity of about 18018MW, 59 thermal power projects with a total installed capacity of about 27568MW, and it is carrying out the design for some 600MW super-critical units; In addition to this, GXED undertakes the development and planning of the power grid and energy industry of Guangxi and up to now it has completed the design of 10 substations of 500kV with a total capacity of 7750MVA, about 160 substations of 220kV with a total capacity of 24000MVA; 2389km long 500kV and 10906km long 220kV power transmission lines. It undertook more than 30 EPC projects both at home and abroad. GXED has been awarded by governments at all levels with 228 medals since 1978 for its excellent design and contribution to science and technology progress, of which 32 medals are of national level.

GXED also devotes itself to the creation and application of new technologie. In 2003, a post-doctorial program was estiablished in GXED, following which was a geo-technical research center, a structure research center and a digial power grid research center, providing great support to its business development and the leap growth of its comprehensive strength. Since 1998, it has been short-listed continuously as one of the top 100 institutes in China. GXED has stepped onto the track leading to high-speed development and sound cycle for its economic activities.
