Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy, CNNC (BRICEM ) established in 1958 is a multidisciplinary and comprehensive research institute which is engaged mainly in technical research of uranium ore processing and hydrometallurgy. There are 530 employees, including about 200 senior engineers. For more than 40 years, BRICEM has won a great number of achievements in basic theoretical research for processing uranium ore and supplied various effective technological processes to uranium mills. She is proficient at development and application of advanced techniques in the following fields: hydrometallurgy, fine chemical engineering, organic material synthesis, analytical technique, three wastes treatment and environmental engineering. She has won 346 national and ministerial scientific and technological achievement prizes, including 8 national invention prizes, 6 national scientific and technological progress prizes, and 32 patents.
Put into use at the end of 1998, with the area of 3320m2, Key Laboratory of Uranium Extractive Metallurgy can provide technological services such as rock-mineral determination, biochemistry, in situ and heap leaching, ion exchange, extraction and purification, etc. for uranium mining and metallurgy, extraction and recovery of other nonferrous, rare and precious metals.
For many years, BRICEM has wide academic and commercial connections with domestic and foreign scientific and technological circles and enterprises. Experts, scholars, professors, enterprisers from over 40 countries and regions have visited to investigate, give lectures and have academic exchanges. She has trained many uranium hydrometallurgy technicians in developing countries according to the trust of International Atomic Energy Agency and has held International Hydrometallurgy Conference successfully twice.
